RE: The Eritrean Diplomacy Team Congratulates President Donald Trump on his
Inauguration as the 47th President of the United States

Dear President Donald J. Trump,

On behalf of the Eritrean people and the joint diplomacy team of the Eritrean opposition in exile, we congratulate you on your election and inauguration as the 47th President of the United States of America. We admire your pronouncement and promise to the American people and the world that your administration is going to prioritize stopping all wars and focus on building peace and stability around the world. Our country, Eritrea, has been at war with every single country bordering it, and indeed the Eritrean government has been at war with its own people as well. We have high hopes and confidence that your State Department’s mission to Africa will pressure the government of Eritrea to make peace with its neighbors, respect human rights, release all journalists, political activists, and religious leaders jailed for years without any due process of law, and install democratic governance in the country and indeed allow free and observe elections.

In its “Integrated Country Strategy” published May 5th, 2022, the United States had identified the government in Eritrea as an oppressive autocratic regime with a history of gross human rights violations, and an obstacle for peace and stability in the region.

Dear Mr. President:

We wish you good health and success in the second term of your administration. The world is waiting for the leadership of the most powerful nation in the world and its peaceful and constructive engagements all over the globe. We hope Eritrea and the Horn of Africa region will be one of your administration’s foreign policy priorities in the months and years to come. We have a strong will and desire for peace and democracy in Eritrea, and even stronger people at home struggling to be free from the shackles of a war mongering dictator, Isaias Afwerki. With the support from your administration, the Eritrean opposition at home and abroad shall spare no effort for peaceful democratic change in Eritrea and make the country a beacon of peace and development in the Red Sea region.
